March Begins
It’s March already? Wow. So much has happened since 2011 started. I got married (small detail), honeymoon to Disneyworld, moving Denise into the apartment, Premiere of The Grace Card in Memphis, handling a work explosion that includes a bunch of DVD covers, DVD authoring for another film, multiple websites, marketing started for others films, a new story idea for movie #2 brought along (yep you heard me), and so much more! It’s been an extremely stressful, draining, but rewarding year so far. If it continues into the summer like it has been the last two months, I’ll be a Blessed man in many ways but have an ulcer as well. God has made it clear I need to figure out a few things in regards to time management and making sure I’m keeping myself healthy. Don’t worry I’m not eating bacon and cheeseburgers everyday (but man do I want to!), it’s more spiritual and emotional health.
It’s no secret to people that know me that I get stressed out easy just with life. Work makes things far worse depending on the workload. Doing what I do is actually very easy all things considered and if left to just do it I have a ton of fun, but it’s the mental capacity and strain that takes a hit. Keeping multiple jobs moving along, answering emails from dozens of different people with different questions and different answers needed every day. Phone calls from multiple states on a regular basis and trying to keep all that in line as well is very frustrating. For the first time while eating dinner the other day I threw my phone onto the floor (dropped it…on carpet…don’t worry) just so it wasn’t near me. I didn’t want to be bothered. I just lose my head a little bit sometimes while multitasking so much not practically as much as mentally. I’ve been here before, but this has been the toughest in a long time. God will get me through it.
Denise and I in case anybody is worried are just fine. She told me the other day it feels like we’ve been married for a while already. I think because we spent so much time together before we got married and had spoken about and hammered out so many things beforehand, that transitioning was a piece of cake. I mean that honestly…it was painless. The only difference is she didn’t go home at night to go to bed…that’s about it. We have plenty to work on (who doesn’t) but overall we’re doing very well. God is good and helping us get our footing and I’m thankful.
Another random job came along the other day I didn’t know about. I’ll be doing the DVD packing for a 7-Disc Roy Rogers Collection Set.
I’m sorta excited to do something a little outside the box for myself again. The last few I did were very different than what I’m used to. I did a documentary called How Will We Love, then two kids programs called The Tiny Pirate and Molly Pickens. Before those three I had done another cover for a drama called Wheel of Knowing. I put up the covers on my portfolio here, (besides the Molly Pickens) in case you wanted to take a look. Doing the covers for the kids program was tough and way outside my normal realm of expertise but I was happy that I got something together I was happy with. It’s hard to do stuff like that. I think the Pirate one is my favorite of the three, it has a Spongebob Squarepants feel to it I like.
I’m really confident in the new story idea Denise and I have cooked up for movie #2. The message that it would bring is something I’ve had on my heart for years, and had a lot to do with why I made STANDING FIRM in the first place. So the passion to do a story of this kind to say this kind of thing has had time to cook, I just couldn’t come up with a story to wrap around it. Denise and I after speaking about it multiple times came up with a few story ideas but only one of them stuck and had something to it but it was missing real meat to make it good. I think we’ve been able to find something great to develop. I’ve shared the current logline (one sentence summary of your script) with some folks to get reactions, and even started initial marketing preparations and graphic design to get a presence online once it’s a proper time. More details to come…all in good timing! Pray that God would be Glorified in this film already as we seek out a 110% YES from Him to move forward. If so, my wife and I will be writing our first script together. She’s already been a fantastic help.
Denise will begin helping more officially around here soon. I gave her my MacBook Pro to use as her personal computer now, got her emails setup for the business, and started teaching her how to use a mac. She’s been on a PC her whole life so it’s a change, but I need her using the same software as I do if we’re to work side by side. It’ll take time to learn but she’s pretty well setup. Now I have to determine whether or not I really need a new laptop right now or whether I can hold out for a while. Lots of other things to pay for and pay off so it’s probably not the time, but we’ll see. I’m still in shock after the wedding and all that…not sure I have the heart to buy anything anytime soon, LOL.
Lots to get done…time’s a wasting! But, I need some sleep first…and some Bible in my mind/heart. Night folks!
The Buzz Is Over?…I Guess Not
I was hoping that press release that was going to be sent out this morning would do some good, and it did. I woke up this morning to a phone call from a lady who writes for a Christian newspaper in FL that has about 250,000 readers in print per month with a website as well, and she also does articles for Christianity Today. This was a wonderful thing to wake up to, I must say. We’ll see what comes of it. A second interview with TitleTrakk.com came out today so you can read that here if you’re interested. Not sure if I’ve mentioned this either but my portfolio site has recently been updated as well as my IMDB profile to show any recent additions. It’s crazy how much things grow in just a few years.
By the way if you’re a reader of this and you haven’t check out this page yet, please do. Especially regarding Option #2 of inviting your friends. http://www.facebook.com/standingfirm?v=app_10442206389
Sorry for all the links, but I gotta do what I gotta do! This is one of those movies that has to have the support of the body. I gotta start somewhere right? By God’s Grace I’m hoping to do a second print of the films DVD’s in January. Hopefully that comes to pass. I was hoping it would be sooner but that just didn’t work out. That’s life…
I secured the location of our reception today for the wedding. It snowed all day today and has continued snowing into the night. I saw online that it’s not supposed to stop for like two days! :/ When I left the reception place to go get food I was hitting peak rush hour traffic and on these back roads here, it can get insanely busy. I knew I was in for trouble when I went to go get lunch and go home. It took a while to get to Wegmans and then over 40 minutes to get home, which is only a mile or two up the road. It’s tough not losing your temper when you’re around people who are breaking every 5 seconds. Doesn’t anyone realize that if you let your car roll isn’t progressively slow down? Why must we ride the brake people?
An unfortunate occurrence today is making it hard to write this post right now. I destroyed my glasses
I’ve had them for maybe 8 years now, maybe 7 and they’re in pieces. I’ll be honest I was praying so hard I was weeping earlier (had some garbage to lay down) and because of that I had to take my glasses off. When I was done I stood up and CRUNCH! Very disappointing. I can’t drive without them so me and Denise need to go get a new pair tomorrow. She has a half day tomorrow so later on when she comes over we’ll have to head out and try and brave the weather. I’m nearsighted but because of the excessive computer usage with glasses on my eyes even up close have become pretty battered. I can see sharp as a tac less than a foot away but once you’re beyond that things start to get hazy and anything far away gets really hazy.
We also ordered our invitations today. I had to next-day ship them because we’re behind. Our honeymoon was also locked down and paid for. We’re going to Disney World. I’ve never been there myself but Denise has many times. I was a little worried I won’t like it but I think it’ll be fine. There is plenty of time to relax there and also have fun. We’re driving so there’s no airports or planes to worry about (thank goodness!) and we’ll be able to take our time coming back home likely stopping in a few places on our way up (more on that to come, some things I’m praying about regarding who I might see). It’s going to be a relaxing two weeks full of fun, relaxation, and some traveling. I think I do need a break from the craziness of life. I’ve been a pretty busy guy this entire year, not really stopping even for a moment. It’s been 5000% all year with STANDING FIRM especially, and I’ll be happy to get married and take some time off.
Lots of things to do to end out the year. 2010 has been a pretty wild ride, and even though it’s coming to a close it’s not over yet! Till next time…
Cool Little Blessings
Today was a busy day. Denise showed up in the morning to hang out before she had to work, because I wouldn’t see her again till Saturday. We decided to go eat breakfast since we couldn’t think of anything to do before she would have to leave. Syro’s in Lewiston was the choice today and man was it a good one! Their pancakes were the best I’ve ever had (seriously) and the sausage was like a casaba it was so big. A+ food…woot.
It was really nice out today. Not as nice as the day before (it was 55 in Niagara Falls) when I put my window down for the first time in months…but it was nice enough to put the sunroof open. I can’t wait for the nice weather, good riddens winter…don’t come back.
After Denise left I got to work right away on a bunch of things and really didn’t even stop until 9pm or so. I had files to deliver for the Sperry DVD and BTS, some talking to do with my sound-mixer, a ton of emails back and forth all day, and the majority of my time was spent working on a new design for the Praise Pictures website. I have a lot of work to do to make sure that this summer has us totally ready for church screenings and stuff. I’m moving a lot of things on the current Praise Pictures site to KyleProhaska.com because they aren’t really related to the business itself or our films. Articles, Interviews, Reviews, will all be moved to my personal website. I also have some plans to make so I know exactly how I’m going to break down the plans available for churches, how much the materials will cost me, how many packages I can afford to have ready, how they pay (and what options they have), etc. There is A TON to figure out. This site is step 1. We’ll see how things pan out.
I had some cool things happen promotion wise today and there is a lot I can see God doing behind the scenes that will help us when the time comes to release. I can’t share all that with you but please just be in prayer that these opportunities come through and that more arrive. Same goes for the foreign distribution opportunities. Pray good deals would be made, that they would be financially beneficial (I have people to pay back…you know how it is), and all that jazz. I have a lot of screeners to mail off in the next few days.
The sound-mix is coming along very nicely…I look forward to hearing Reel 3 and 4′s mix soon.
So yea, a lot on my plate…as always. Prayers appreciated, the year is going to get busier and busier!
