March Begins

It’s March already?  Wow.  So much has happened since 2011 started.  I got married (small detail), honeymoon to Disneyworld, moving Denise into the apartment, Premiere of The Grace Card in Memphis, handling a work explosion that includes a bunch of DVD covers, DVD authoring for another film, multiple websites, marketing started for others films, a new story idea for movie #2 brought along (yep you heard me), and so much more!  It’s been an extremely stressful, draining, but rewarding year so far.  If it continues into the summer like it has been the last two months, I’ll be a Blessed man in many ways but have an ulcer as well.  God has made it clear I need to figure out a few things in regards to time management and making sure I’m keeping myself healthy.  Don’t worry I’m not eating bacon and cheeseburgers everyday (but man do I want to!), it’s more spiritual and emotional health.

It’s no secret to people that know me that I get stressed out easy just with life.  Work makes things far worse depending on the workload.  Doing what I do is actually very easy all things considered and if left to just do it I have a ton of fun, but it’s the mental capacity and strain that takes a hit.  Keeping multiple jobs moving along, answering emails from dozens of different people with different questions and different answers needed every day.  Phone calls from multiple states on a regular basis and trying to keep all that in line as well is very frustrating.  For the first time while eating dinner the other day I threw my phone onto the floor (dropped it…on carpet…don’t worry) just so it wasn’t near me.  I didn’t want to be bothered.  I just lose my head a little bit sometimes while multitasking so much not practically as much as mentally.  I’ve been here before, but this has been the toughest in a long time.  God will get me through it.

Denise and I in case anybody is worried are just fine.  She told me the other day it feels like we’ve been married for a while already.  I think because we spent so much time together before we got married and had spoken about and hammered out so many things beforehand, that transitioning was a piece of cake.  I mean that honestly…it was painless.  The only difference is she didn’t go home at night to go to bed…that’s about it.  We have plenty to work on (who doesn’t) but overall we’re doing very well.  God is good and helping us get our footing and I’m thankful.

Another random job came along the other day I didn’t know about.  I’ll be doing the DVD packing for a 7-Disc Roy Rogers Collection Set. :) I’m sorta excited to do something a little outside the box for myself again.  The last few I did were very different than what I’m used to.  I did a documentary called How Will We Love, then two kids programs called The Tiny Pirate and Molly Pickens.  Before those three I had done another cover for a drama called Wheel of Knowing.  I put up the covers on my portfolio here, (besides the Molly Pickens) in case you wanted to take a look.  Doing the covers for the kids program was tough and way outside my normal realm of expertise but I was happy that I got something together I was happy with.  It’s hard to do stuff like that.  I think the Pirate one is my favorite of the three, it has a Spongebob Squarepants feel to it I like. :P

I’m really confident in the new story idea Denise and I have cooked up for movie #2.  The message that it would bring is something I’ve had on my heart for years, and had a lot to do with why I made STANDING FIRM in the first place.  So the passion to do a story of this kind to say this kind of thing has had time to cook, I just couldn’t come up with a story to wrap around it.  Denise and I after speaking about it multiple times came up with a few story ideas but only one of them stuck and had something to it but it was missing real meat to make it good.  I think we’ve been able to find something great to develop.  I’ve shared the current logline (one sentence summary of your script) with some folks to get reactions, and even started initial marketing preparations and graphic design to get a presence online once it’s a proper time.  More details to come…all in good timing!  Pray that God would be Glorified in this film already as we seek out a 110% YES from Him to move forward.  If so, my wife and I will be writing our first script together.  She’s already been a fantastic help. :)

Denise will begin helping more officially around here soon.  I gave her my MacBook Pro to use as her personal computer now, got her emails setup for the business, and started teaching her how to use a mac.  She’s been on a PC her whole life so it’s a change, but I need her using the same software as I do if we’re to work side by side.  It’ll take time to learn but she’s pretty well setup.  Now I have to determine whether or not I really need a new laptop right now or whether I can hold out for a while.  Lots of other things to pay for and pay off so it’s probably not the time, but we’ll see.  I’m still in shock after the wedding and all that…not sure I have the heart to buy anything anytime soon, LOL.

Lots to get done…time’s a wasting!  But, I need some sleep first…and some Bible in my mind/heart.  Night folks!

A Busy Week For Everyone

It’s no secret these are busy times.  I haven’t done any of my shopping yet except for one person (typical guy), invitations for the wedding came in later than expected so Denise and I are rushing to get those out, the rest of the world is going bonkers with it’s affairs, I have about 30 days to finish two DVD covers that I haven’t started yet, tax information to gather from 2010 (gonna be a fun  year), and various other side things I’m doing.

One random project I’m doing right now is building the Road to Perdition trailer in 1080p from scratch.  It’s no secret it’s one of my favorite movies, and probably one of the most beautiful ever shot.  The trailer on the Blu-ray has a pretty old transfer, so the colors are off, the image shakes, the image itself is cropped a bit, etc.  I recently ingested the entire film off of my Blu-ray onto my computer in Prorez422 as well as the trailer.  I just wanted to see the film in 1080p in file form to see what it really looks like.  It’s tough on a TV to see something for what it really is.  On the computer I can blow it up and frame through it easily to see the grain and all sorts of things.  Call it stupid and pointless but for me it helps me learn.  I’m really interested in making my footage look like film not just with how it’s shot, lit, etc. but the organic feel film has.  Call me a purist, but it seriously is for my own artistic satisfaction.  That, and I’m also a geek when it comes to making digital look like film or taking something shot on a low-budget camera and making it impossible to tell.  Take this shot for instance (it’s black and white I know, but just for the sake of argument) I added the most realistic grain I could to this shot of my mom.  When viewed in SD (which is the resulting format most of my films will likely be seen in the future, not in a theater), you’d be hard pressed to tell which one of these is film and which one was shot on a Canon 5D.  Even sharpness compares at this resolution because of the down-convert from HD to SD.  If you saw it even in color and with the grain animated you’d see what I was trying to do. Even in 1080p I would argue they compare.  This is fun for me so if you’re bored sorry!

The rebuilding of the Road to Perdition trailer is coming along nicely.  It’s keeping me on my toes since I haven’t had much to edit.  I’m matching all the shots frame for frame, rebuilding the titles, etc. while keeping the original audio track for the trailer.

Not a lot of other stuff going on.  I’ve begun reading Screenplay by Syd Field, and I’m behind on my Piper book.  It’s hard to keep up with so many things going right now.  I need to get back on the ball.  It’s easy to get behind even for a day without reading your Bible, and you feel it the following day.  Lots going on upstairs and in life, this week is super busy as well.  Denise has her last day at Gieco on Thursday.  She’s coming to work for me.  We’re going to give that a shot with her doing some secretarial duties and a few other sales related things to see if it works out.  There’s some things I just can’t do anymore.  It was different when I had just Praise Pictures and Standing Firm stuff, but now I have that plus a job with Rich Christiano for ChristianMovies.com, Heumoore Productions with Ace Wonder and doing any web/marketing stuff, a few other marketing ventures possibly coming with some people, DVD Covers (as I had said before) and also whatever tax stuff, keeping my finances together and trying to plan for a little over 30 days from now when Denise will officially be living here and at the same time working here.  I want a one income house, and we’re going to get started off on the right foot.  We likely won’t be waiting forever to start having kids (not that it’s completely up to us anyways!) and she’ll be 27 in just a few weeks.  If we want a handful of kids (which we do) then we can’t wait forever to get started.  Me and Dense met one year ago this past monday, and on Jan 22nd we’re getting married.  CRAZY STUFF.  Looking forward to the future!!
