Well I leave in two days, it’s coming fast…
I woke up today around noon and after eating some breakfast and checking emails headed out to a few locations to gather exterior shots of a few locations for Standing Firm. It was hot out today, around 90 or so. I stopped at the Gifford’s first to get a shot of their home. I got some different angles in case I need to reuse the shot for another place in the film. Even though the light on the house is the same, some color correction and the altered angle will help hide that. Then it was off to get a haircut in Lewiston before heading to the church. I forgot money though so when I parked in front of the place I had to leave and run to the ATM. I really needed a haircut pretty bad. My hair grows so fast, it’s nuts. What I needed to shoot at the church was the new sign we got. The film has a really poor shot of the church in it with this little thing we have outside our parking lot that’s basically laminated cardboard on wooden posts. It’s pretty lame looking and while I had the opportunity, getting our new sign in the film just made sense, plus I did need the exterior for a scene in the film.
Afterwards I headed to Kevin’s to get yet another exterior, this time of his house. I grabbed a bunch of different things and also needed to record some sound of the rock driveway they have when you walk on it, as well as some sounds from the wooden steps. There are very few times this needs to be done but I have a scene or two where the sound in the film was utterly worthless. I have to re-create the entire soundtrack. Ambience, background noise, footsteps, clothes rustling, dialog, other odd sound effects, etc. It all has to sound natural and real. It’s a challenge but we’ve pulled it off in every scene so far.
When I got home Shaun came over to try and get some progress made on the Niagara Gospel Rescue Mission website. We didn’t get very far as my servers were acting up again and my internet went down. Later after he left I had a crazy idea to go see a movie. There was one showing of District 9 left at the theater and I headed to that around 12:20am. Read my review below this entry, I really liked the film a lot.
Tomorrow I’ll be doing laundry, cleaning my room and parts of the house, and the later in the afternoon I have a party for a friend I’m looking forward to. It’s going to be a great way to end my stay in NY, and I can’t wait.
